Mudgee region fast facts
- 3 hours from Sydney (northwest)
- Similar latitude to the Hunter but vastly different climate
- Dry and high altitude (500-600m)
- Plenty of afternoon sunlight, cool nights
- Contributes to slow ripening with deep colour development (harvest/picking about 1 month after Hunter)
- 70+ vineyards (pop approx 15,000)
- More area under vine than the Hunter (Mudgee’s fruit often blended with premium wines from other regions)
- Renowned for reds- esp cabernet, shiraz

- Well drained, north facing gravel slopes.
- Insulated from frost & withstand wet weather well
- Produce some of the cleanest/disease free fruit in district
- Varieties grown - cabernet, merlot, shiraz, petit verdot, semillon, pinot gris, tempranillo, viognier
- Vines now 12 yrs old & well balanced
- Yields are 3–4 tonnes/acre (low yield, premium)
- Mostly hand picked
